Fidencio Jiménez began the production of ancestral mezcal in 1887. Ninety-nine years later, 4th Generation Enrique Jiménez, began producing and exporting artesanal mezcal under the brand name Ultramarine. In 1993, Mezcal del Maestro was founded, later named Mezcal del Amigo- and to this day, Mezcal Del Amigo remains one of the few 100% family owned and operated brands in Santiago Matatlán. Fidencio Mezcal, named in honor of Enrique’s great-grandfather,
entered the U.S. market in 2009 and has since earned numerous awards, each recognition reflecting generations of dedication
rather than a single moment of success.
At its heart, this is truly a family endeavor. Every member plays a role in carrying the legacy forward. Enrique and Georgina Jiménez, both chemical engineers, work side by side across every aspect of production and business, blending scientific knowledge with inherited tradition. Their daughter Alina specializing in business marketing has dedicated 17 years to the business, while Anahí, specializing in international business, has spent the past six years alongside her husband Manuel, who has been deeply involved for five years.
More than a company, this is a living family story — one shaped by perseverance, pride, and an enduring respect for the craft of mezcal that began well over a century ago and continues to
evolve with each new generation.
We are beyond thrilled for the Jiménez family to announce that Fidencio Clásico has been awarded the prestigious Double Gold Medal with a nearly perfect score of 99 at the 2024 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Clásico also made the top five list for Best Mezcals in the World. Fidencio Tobalá also walked away with a
Gold medal with a score of 92!
